Academy of St. Louis, Miriam Foundation Named Charitable Recipients Of 2011 Ameren Missouri Thanksgiving Day Parade

ST. LOUIS – October 11, 2011 – The Academy of St. Louis and the Miriam Foundation have been named the charitable recipients of the 2011 Ameren Missouri Thanksgiving Day Parade.

“We are pleased and excited about the selection of the Academy of St. Louis and the Miriam Foundation as the charitable recipients for this year’s parade,” said Steve Peirce, president of the Christmas in St. Louis Foundation. “Both share complementary missions of helping St. Louis area children with learning disabilities to succeed academically and in life.”

About the Academy of St. Louis

The Academy of St. Louis assists K-12th grade students with cognitive learning disabilities. The Academy of St. Louis provides each student with a safe and nurturing environment, challenging curriculum, social integration skills and faith formation, and aids each student in reaching their highest potential providing them with the confidence and knowledge to succeed in life.
About the Miriam Foundation

The Miriam Foundation improves the quality of life for children with learning disabilities and their families through innovative and comprehensive programs. The Miriam Foundation was chartered in 1910 as Miriam No. 17, a local chapter of the national organization United Order True Sisters, Inc.  In 1954, Miriam began providing assistance to cancer patients and cancer-related organizations throughout the St. Louis community through Miriam Cancer Services. The Miriam School was established in 1956 to serve children with developmental disabilities.
2011 Ameren Missouri Thanksgiving Day Parade in 27th Year

Celebrating its 27th year, the 2011 Ameren Missouri Thanksgiving Day Parade will begin at 8:45 a.m. on Thursday, November 24 from the corner of Washington Avenue and Fourth Street in downtown St. Louis.

In addition to dozens of magnificent floats and colorful helium balloons, the parade will feature area marching bands and the annual Battle of the Bands Contest. As a Christmas
in St. Louis partner, the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission’s Holiday Magic team will once again participate in this year’s parade.  The Holiday Magic mascot, Snowflake, will also be on hand.
