Inaugural Thanksgiving Hungry Turkey Trot 5K in St. Louis Will Benefit Operation Food Search

ST. LOUIS – October 17, 2013 – To benefit Operation Food Search, Christmas in St. Louis along with Big River Running Company will hold the first Hungry Turkey Trot 5K {hungryturkey5k.com) on Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 28) morning in downtown St. Louis.
“We are delighted about the addition of the Hungry Turkey Trot 5K to our outstanding lineup of traditional holiday events and activities,” said Brian Hall, Chairman of the Christmas in St. Louis Foundation for 2013. “We encourage runners of all ages and abilities to participate in our inaugural race that will help Operation Food Search curtail hunger in our community.” Matt Helbig, owner of Big River Running Company, said he was excited about the race and his company’s partnership with Operation Food Search and Christmas in St. Louis. “We are honored to partner with Operation Food Search and Christmas in St. Louis,” said Helbig. “Like a great pair or running shoes, this partnership is really a perfect fit. Our company has always given back to running and both these organizations share that same ‘give back’ spirit” in the community.
Established in 1981 to tackle the growing problem of hunger, Operation Food Search is a St. Louis area food bank that distributes food free of charge to feed the poor and hungry.
“We want to thank Christmas in St. Louis and Big River Running Company for organizing this race on our behalf,” said Sunny Schaefer, Executive Director for Operation Food Search. “Not only will this race help us serve more people but it will generate added awareness about hunger in St. Louis.”
The Hungry Turkey Trot 5K will begin (7:30 a.m.) and end at Kiener Plaza. http://www.thehungryturkey.com/map.html . All proceeds and food donations will go to Operation Food Search.
