Family-Friendly Thanksgiving Day Run Benefits Operation Food Search

The Second Annual Hungry Turkey 5K will take to the streets of downtown St. Louis on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, Nov. 27), beginning at 7:30 a.m. on Market Street just east of Union Station.  This family-friendly event is open to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities.  The race is presented by the Christmas in St. Louis Foundation and Big River Running Company, with all runners asked to bring can goods or make a donation to Operation Food Search.

“We can’t think of a better way for runners and their families to begin Thanksgiving Day than by joining us for the Hungry Turkey 5 K and helping to support Operation Food Search and their efforts to support those in need,” said Matt Helbig, owner of Big River Running Company.  “We welcome runners, strollers and walkers to join in our fun and scenic course that travels through downtown and across the Eads Bridge before finishing at historic Union Station, just before the start of the Thanksgiving Day parade.”

The Hungry Turkey 5K precedes the annual Ameren Missouri Thanksgiving Day Parade.  Celebrating its 30th year, the parade will start at 8:45 a.m. on Thanksgiving Day (Thursday, Nov. 27) and runs west of Market Street from Kiener Plaza to Union Station.  Once again the parade will be broadcast live on KMOV-TV Channel 4’s “Great Day St. Louis.”  More than 130 parade units will participate, including musical floats, giant helium balloon figures, animal units and marching bands from across the St. Louis area.  The parade will conclude with a very special appearance by Santa Claus, to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas.  Participants in the Hungry Turkey 5K will have prime seating to view the parade.
